William Morris Panel |
 |
The design for this unusual sofa seat is attributed
to William Morris and his apprentice and successor Henry Dearle.
A watercolour of the design (1880-1890) is at the William Morris
Gallery. A panel was woven in about 1910 by Morris & Co after
the death of Morris and while Dearle was running the company.

Beth Russell's needlepoint adaptation measures 15
x 48" (38 x 122cm). It makes a superb cover for a piano stool,
window seat, headboard, foot stool or carpet runner. There is sufficient
canvas around the design to allow the stitching of a border, which
can be ordered separately.
The design, doubled and mirror-imaged, is now available
as a one piece rug.
Again there is sufficient space around the printed canvas to stitch
a 3" (7.5cm) border.
This is not printed on the canvas, but may be purchased as a separate
needlepoint kit consisting of coloured charts and wools.
Beth has recently designed a cushion to partner this
design. You can see it by clicking
here.
