William Morris Compton |
 |
Morris & Co produced the beautiful Compton design in 1896,
as part of the furnishings for Compton Hall, Wolverhampton.

Although it was designed by his colleague Henry Dearle,
it shows all the characteristics of William
Morris himself, with rich colours, exotic flowers and
meandering leaves. Wallpapers and fabrics featuring the
Compton design are still produced by Arthur Sanderson &
Sons of London - the perfect way to complete your decorative
scheme.

Brown Compton Cushion |
Beth Russell has adapted
this rich repeating design to needlepoint. In order to give
the rug a centre, the design needed to be slightly adjusted
and then reversed. The kits are true to the original colours,
with three shades blended in the background to retain its
soft warm tone. The plain black border serves to frame the
intricate design.
There is also a miniature kit available
to complete the set. The cushion can also be made into a
delightful top for the stool shown on the Borders
page.
After some requests from our customers, Beth has just developed
a new blue interpretation of this classic Morris design.
