William
De Morgan was a revolutionary and brilliant potter
of the Arts & Crafts period. Magpies was just one
of his many fabulous designs for glazed ceramic tiles.
His factory at Merton Abbey was next to that of his close
friend
William Morris, with
whom he collaborated on many projects for stained glass
and furniture.
